[project] Upgrade On Shiny's 205 Gti

Recommended Posts

shine

Hello.

Some pics of whats happeinig to my "never ending" 205 prosject.

Gearbox out to mount Quaife LSD and new gear linkage, like GpA ones.

kassa.jpg

I'm converting to Webers, here is first mounting aftet the inlet manifoil has been grinded for best airspeed/match my inlet ports:

webere3.jpg

I desided to work out a carbon box for air intake, and made a cast(form) in aluminium and moulded two layers of carbonfibre in it. This is the result after some grinding and a few layers of coating.

To get enginebay more tidy, I bought some fittings froms Earls Plumbing, and some feet of braided hose:

pakke2.jpg

To use this fittings it's nessesary to make nippels to suit, several places. Here thermostat housing with AN12 nipple ready.

Breather tank, made from alu. Here are the parts:

After hours of polishing. Quite shiny now:

Next on program is cutting hose and mount the fittings.

Holy shiney pug parts Batman!

Good effort matey, seems a shame to actually drive it and get it dirty once it's all together. Hope you put your sunnies on when opening the bonnet on a summer's day

It's painted 2 years ago, when I build this engine. First I tried to just clean and polish all alu parts on engine, but after a while alu reacts with water and air, and there came some white corrosion.

This paint seems to be more wearable.

That is awesome work mate, breathtaking.

How much clearance do you have between the airbox and the radiator/slam?

also are you going to put in feed for it somewhere?

Cheers

Clearanse is 30mm. I think this is enough, my lower engine mount is made of delrin(nylon) and the two others are upprated. Engine don't flex much, more like bolted to chassis.

On left side ther will be a 70mm or 76mm intet, thin wall alu tube feeding air from the filterbox with hole in bonnet, behind left light. I did not want to cut in the box, cause the firm I ordered these tubing from in US could't specify the diameter exactly.

Old pic, but illustrates.

Oh yes. It's an alu spanner for AN fittings, great cause it leaves no marks on the fittings.

Looks great too. :o

They are called "reusable swivel AN hose ends". I used AN6 size for fuel, AN8/AN10 for breathing and AN12 for water. The hose is called "Auto hose, braided steel"

The are really expencive here in Norway, so I have orderd mine from Summit Racing in US. Great service and very fast shipping. US to Norway in 4-5 days, at reasonable freight costs.
