Superchips Custom Map

Recommended Posts

Need some opinions :(

I live in mid Lincs so good tuners are hard to find and I need a custom map for my Motronic 4.1

The nearest place seems to be Cituning who are Superchips agents and after a chat with them they told me the following -

They have a box of tricks that plugs into the std ecu amd allows them to custom map the car, this box is then removed and it's contents are downloaded and sent to Superchips who use the data to write a map which is then sent back to Cituning for them to burn onto a new PROM.

Has anybody any experience of this type of mapping and do you think it will be a good job - I generally don't like Superchips but in this instance I would like to think the chip will be as good as the guy doing the mapping.

Cheers

Luke

I've been doing alot of reading up on Crome, Uberdata and Turboedit.

They do pretty much what your talking about, but for honda ecu's. They give very good and in depth explanations of what is involved in chipping an ecu and how it all works.

www.pgmfi.org

What they'll do is copy the .hex file from the chip. Then superchips will look at the map locations and load on an 'uprated' map onto another eprom. This is simple in theory but starting from scratch is a long and costly affair.

What makes you such an ardent fan of the standard management? I know it sounds an odd prospect, but utilising a honda ecu on a custom loom would work pretty well on your car. Either that or megasquirt/KMS etc. etc.

It seems your going out of your way to maintain originality, at the expense of functionality.

I keep the original management for several reasons the main one being I now have VERY bad eyesight and cannoy do half of what I used to and I am not paying someone to upgrade it for me - I am actaully an engineer by trade so if circumstances were different I would happily play around with things in fact I would probably build an ecu similar to an emerald :(

My car is only a hobby now and I just want to finish off by getting a good map into it as at the moment it is not right with a generic "chip"

Having the standard system remapped is a cheap and effective way of tidying up and about £200 cheaper than a Dastek.

I'd guess this is similar to what Wayne at Chipwizards does, and thus the results should be as good as the guy mapping it abeilt with the same limitations as the standard management - AFM meaning lumpy cams are out, unable to use throttle bodies (properly) and still using a dizzy cap/arm setup.

How much are Cituning quoting out of interest?

Anthony - I have piper regrinds with verniers and just a bit of headwork so nothing to trouble the std set up I would think anyways.

Cituning quoted between £300 and £350 which is a full power run before they start work and a full power run after the mapping and chip fitting.

I thought this was reasonable considering just a generic chip is the best part of £200.

Incidentally that is similar to the price Wayne quoted me but sadly he is a long way off when compared to Nottingham.
