Owain1602 0 Posted April 11, 2006 Hi, im going to rebuild one of my 1.6 GTi engines quite soon. Are there complete engine gasket sets available which have the cam seals, liner seals, crank seal, sump gasket and all others and probably the head gasket seperate. Would you guys recomend a specific place that sell them or you know are very good. Also in the rebuild, the liners seem spotless, no lip what so ever but what do i need to get done to the liners? I presume they have to be honed, anything else? And what do the pistons need, im gonna put new rings, anything else i should watch out for when checking these parts? Cheers
Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 12, 2006 If your rebuilding the whole engine then you need a Head Gasket Kit and a Bottom End Kit, those will include all the gaskets/seals you need... there is no sump seal, you use paste stuff for that. If the liners look good then just have the honed, with the pistons if they look OK then just slap the rings on and use them Are you just building the engine back to standard spec, cause it would be a nice idea to fit ARP Conrod Bolts while it's appart... oh and get the bottome end lightened and balanced maybe, doesn't cost too much really... Owain1602 0 Posted April 12, 2006 there is a gasket for the sump. Does anyone on here balance the bottom end? Does anyone have some sort of price to get the bottom end balanced? I presume that includes doing the pistons, rods, crank and flywheel? I want to get Puma Racing doing work on the head, big valve head and cam running on twin 40s or 45s and omex mapped ignition, im gonna run the 40s i have and the omex on the engine ive just put in the car whilst i build this one. I need to speak to dave baker really. Thanks for your thought.
