Danxs 0 Posted April 10, 2006 i was just wondering if anyone could help, am in the middle of changing my head and cam for uprated items on my 309 gti (still running 8v). i have head work and a pug sport group A cam (282 i believe), what do the valve clearnces need to be, standard or different? any help would be very much appreciated, thanks. PumaRacing 2 Posted April 11, 2006 The standard clearances are Inlet 8 thou (0.2mm) +/- 2 thou. Exhaust 16 thou (0.4mm) +/- 2 thou However the type of cam doesn't affect the clearances. It's there to ensure that the valves don't expand more than the head does when the engine is hot and reduce the clearances to zero. What I use on all my road and race engines is Inlet 0.2-0.25mm. Exhaust 0.30-0.35mm The standard exhaust clearance is very large and if anything wears it starts to rattle. Reducing it to my specs makes for a much quieter engine and has proven to be adequate for any engine temperature. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
