May Be A Silly Question, But...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm preparing to be laughed at immensely here... But having replaced my front Flexi brake pipes with a Goodridge kit, I'm a bit stuck about how to attach them to my front shocks! I vaguely remember a kind of rubber 'donut' which wrapped around the flexi pipe, and was a squeeze-fit into the mount of the side of the shock - where can I get two of these little fellas? Or if I don't need them, what should I do instead?

Thanks,

yes thats how it goes, little rubber donut goes round brakeline and the prongs on the shocks get bent down to hold it in place, was like that on my konis anyway, got told of last MOT for donuts not tight enough in prongs,so i would say they are essentail for holding the hose in place,

would also be interested in were you can buy them

I just cut mine off the old hoses, put them on the braided hoses and secured them in the braket, then bent it in to secure.

Unfortunately I've 'misplaced' the flexi hoses which still had them attached... Anybody have a couple spare they might be willing to post me? Or failing that, where could I get them from?

Nudge to the top...

Does anybody know where you can buy these new?

Or failing that, is anyone breaking a car / has some of these 'donuts' in the garage that they could possibly send to me?

Thanks,

PS Also, as I gather has happened to a number of people here, my strut top mounts have broken... The thread for the bolts attaching the strut to the car (and to my strut brace) have all snapped off - why am I having such a sodding difficult time getting some top mounts?! Just cancelled my order with Autofive after waiting nearly 2 months!

scrap yard time buddy for the rubber donuts!!

as for the top mounts try peugeot themselves or gsf car parts, there not hard to get hold of, and not really that expensive?!

or if you want to have a bit of money just drill em out and whack a bolt through them. those little 11mm bolts are crap. i put big 13mm bolts through mine and welded the bolt heads to the bottom of the top mount.

Many thanks for that buddy but raided the local scrappy last weekend... A knackered 405 soon fell victim to my trusty Leatherman! And thanks for the tip on the topmounts brens 1.9 - I now have industrial-strength 13mm bolts instead of pissy little 11mm ones.

The car is now sitting (very low  ) on its new Gaz coilovers, and looking mean  . If anyones out at Croft on May 6th, I'll be out in the Tintops series #25, and in the Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship #85 - do come by in the pits and say hi!
