jack biscuit 0 Posted April 10, 2006 Well.. i don't have a vast experience with all things peugeot and this has 'puzzled' me for a little while. When it comes to the track length which component on the rear beam sets this? Without access to a 309 (for instance) to investigate the differences, i'm left to guess that the cross member is responsible for this, or is it that the extra width incorporated in the trailing arms (as i'm under the impression that different arms are machined for camber and toe etc..) or is it a combination of both? track set by cross member (seems most sensible, or at least easiest), other geometry set by trailing arms..? Please excuse my ignorance, any nuggets appreciated! JB
Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 10, 2006 I'm worried a little as I totally can't understand your question... track length, do you mean track WIDTH? And what's this Cross Member you've mentioned a few times?!
jack biscuit 0 Posted April 10, 2006 heh.. yes length was a balls up.. Now now, you knew what i had meant! cross member, cross tube, rear beam... (6 of one half a dozen of the other! and beams were generally considered to be square or rectangular in cross section.. so there is fuzziness in everything!) So, what sets the track?! Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 10, 2006 Well the physical width of the tubes... the 309 ones are 25mm wider both sides (so 50mm wider over all) therefore the torsion bars are also 25mm wider each end and so on... So the 'track' is set by the size of the beam
jack biscuit 0 Posted April 10, 2006 Thank you for confirming my suspicions, i feel vindicated. Not as stupid as i sound eh sarky?! cheers jon
Butler 0 Posted April 10, 2006 and yes the geometry is set in the trailing arms.
jack biscuit 0 Posted April 10, 2006 Thank you too butler, armed with this information.. custom cross tubes can be made and experimented with...
tom_m 0 Posted April 10, 2006 Thank you too butler, armed with this information.. custom cross tubes can be made and experimented with... only if you can get custom torsion bars and anti roll bars made too! they are matched to the cross tube length
jack biscuit 0 Posted April 10, 2006 (edited) heheh!! alright, my heads not filled with sand! In reply to butler i was naturally being polite, i thank people for both their expertise and time regardless! But honestly now..
