Major Coolant System Problem?

Recommended Posts

matt205xs

as luck would have it im selling one of my gti's this week. someone has been to look at it and coming back tonight to make a payment,

yesterday i have a water leak coming from the cambelt housing, (water pump) its just a constant drip so not to drastic (yet)

bought some bars pipe seal to see if this would stop the leak and it hasnt

not only this think the rad has gone too!

the situation is when i have been for a drive the pipe going to the rad is red hot, but the rad is cold???

sounds like i have a hole in the rad too???

any confirmations would be appreciated

cambelt area:: have you taken the covers of and checked its coming from the water pump or could be the water distribution block on the back of the block.

can you see any water coming out the raditor with the engine running? how old is the rad?

maybe take the radiator of then have a look at it and check for any leaks of rusty patches on it. and run some water through it with it of the flush it out if it looks ok.

dont stick any stuff in the cooling system to try and stop the leaks as it will just make matter worse!!!

i havnt took the cover off, but if you look underneath the car i can see it coming out of the black plastic casing,

i have driven it and checked later for leaks in the rad and it was bone dry, seems strange, will it be something to do with the thermostat?

normaly if the pipes are hot but the rad is cold it means that the thermostat is gone, it is not letting the hot water to go to the rad to be cooled.
