Guest frew Posted April 9, 2006 Hi all, I recently purchased a 205 with mi16 conversion. The conversion has been done the bodged way which ive just found out after stripping the carpets out and doing a bit of work on the car. Anyway the bulkhead seam and part of the bulkhead have been bashed in but the exhaust has been sitting against the bulkhead aswell. Its caused a bit of damage by rotting the seam and a couple of holes prob due to the heat as the floor looks very discoloured! I want to put the car right by un-tilting the engine and sorting the bulkhead out, Can you just cut out the damaged section and weld a new bit in? Or does it need to be done a certain way because of the seam? Also can this be done with the engine in the car? Cheers
PsychoSimon 0 Posted April 9, 2006 just cut it out and weld a new section in. that's the way des developments do their conversions. The welding doesnt have to be done ina special way but i stitch welded mine, then seam sealed it both sides and sprayed it over with rattle cans. for the real authenticity you an do as i did and remake a heat shield too lol. I didnt take any pictures of mine when i did it but i did it from inside with the carpet out and the engine etc in place so i could see what i was doing
Guest frew Posted April 10, 2006 So can you just cut out the damaged seam and weld in a solid plate without the seam??
