Radio Interferance

Recommended Posts

Rom

Hi guys.

Ive had this interferance for ages. But finally decided id try and fix it.

Its a buzz / whirr directly linked to revs. It doesnt get louder, but pitch changes with rpm.

Now i tried suppresors on the alt and coil.

Also about 78 different earths on the amp !

Ive also tried new power / earth for headunit.

Earthing the rcas

Earthing the headunit case

Probably tried more too but thats all i can think of atm. Now is there a component im missing out. Its just annoying me, its not noticable when u got the stereo at a normal kind of volume really. But if u have it down low for chatting etc, its there in the background.

Oh also, its mainly through the rears, but can be heard if i wind the gain right up on fronts. Sub is unaffected. If i turn the gains up, it gets a bit worse. So the rear gain is right down

I used to have this, when I turned the lights on it went away.

Clean up the brown multi plug ;) I found once this was removed all my troubles went away.

these are really difficult to diagnose over the interweb.

is the amp in the boot? if so do the power ad signal wires run down the car together?

i don't want to insult you if you've tried it, but sometimes the power cable interferes with the signal. try running the rcas down the opposite side to the live/ switched, and see if it cures it.

its worth a look!

When mine did this, it was the alternator on it's last legs.

HAHA ! No they run opposite sides :)

Im pretty sure its nothing to do with my wiring, though ofc i could be wrong.

The alt is pumping out 15v,not sure if that can be gauged as too how close to death it is though.

This brown plug, is this the one dangling above my gearbox ?

i had a similar case before. i rewired all amps and head unit direct from battery (both +ve and -ve) and extra earthings for all of them. extra earthings were also added for alternator and valve cover and, it works!

The title says radio interference. Is it just on the radio, not CD's (tapes? )

If so, then look to your aerial first. If it's not making a good earth connection with the roof, that could cause it.

Sorry i should have said stereo really :)

Its on anything, once u turn stereo on, it takes about 3-4 secs, then it starts. The headunit takes about that long to kick into life.
