Re Shelling My Rally Car Into An Xs

Recommended Posts

i have a 1.9gti with a mi16 that i need to reshell and i have found an xs non sunroof that looks ok. i will be swapping the subframe, rear beam, brakes etc so all i will be using is the shell. i am presumeing that everything will be the same, is there any problems i am likely to come across.

You will find the rear arches a little more enclosed on the xs shell. 1.9 standard wheels will fit with 195/50s on but will scrub the arches unless trimmed, especially at lower than standard xs ride height

so i can cut the rear arches, fit the gti front wings, is the wireing going to be different for the mi as it is a carb model with the exhaust at the front of the engine.

you will need a gti tank, loom and fuel lines, as the tank has the highpressure fuel pump you need, also the loom has a fuel pump wire and the fuel lines on a carbed car will burst if you put multi point injection pressure through them

looks like i will be sending the xs shell to the dump and get a gti shell then sorting out the sunroof.

Surely if you were doing a reshell, you'd be swapping all of the above across anyway, including the wiring loom?

ive not delved into the black art of wireing, (bit frightened of it) i presume i will have to change all the wireing and the dash as the dials are different. is this a complicated job?

it's not hard to do a direct loom change. just unplug it all and plug it back in into the new car lol. earth points are the only things that electrically need to connect to the body. it's when you are just changing parts of the loom it gets slightly more interesting
