tagy 1 Posted April 5, 2006 just put 309 gti wishbones on, it feels soo much better, basically has more grip, no more understeering in a straight line. Also changed the shocks, springs, grp N top mount, polyrace bushes, drop links, trackrod ends. I had 1 peugeot & 1 sachs shock before Still need to get it tracked just done it by eye, gonna get it set parrallel. I came across a big empty roundabout late at night, and it went round and round like a go-kart, getting just a touch of LOO when I wanted . I think the 309 wishbones are a very worthwhile mod imo. Although LOO seems easier to provoke which isnt surprising.
Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 5, 2006 Nice one... you must have a bloody good eye then cause when I did mine the car would hardly roll, I take it you actually adjusted them the proper way and not just spinning the rod end until it 'looked' right? Either way, I'd say get it tracked as a matter of urgency...
nick 3 Posted April 5, 2006 How do you get understeer in a straight line? Nick
jackherer 543 Posted April 5, 2006 How do you get understeer in a straight line? thats exactly what I was thinking apart from anything else, in theory, negative camber will actually give less grip in a straight line, it isn't until you corner that they provide more grip. smckeown 1 Posted April 5, 2006 yep i was thinking the same also
SimonJ 2 Posted April 5, 2006 I'm guessing he meant what happens when you understeer, that is, go straight on. A tautology (sp?).
tagy 1 Posted April 5, 2006 I'm guessing he meant what happens when you understeer, that is, go straight on. A tautology (sp?). yes thats what I meant, when you have so much understeer you feel like you are going in a staraight line. you people are too literal I did the tracking the diy way with a tape measure, but will get it sorted. Guest chris1993GTI Posted April 9, 2006 Hi, Do the 309 arms fit straight on? Or do they require additional modifications? Please excuse this question if it's daft or common knowledge....New to the 205 Chris.
easypug 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Yep fit right on no problems.. Are fitted for the additonal negative camber.
Guest chris1993GTI Posted April 9, 2006 Yep fit right on no problems.. Are fitted for the additonal negative camber. I presume they are slightly larger then. Do they have any issues with inner tyre wear running on these? Or is the additional negative camber only a degree or so? Do you have to add a tad more toe out on the tracking to compensate the extra camber? Sorry for all the questions! Just I am ordering the new bottom arms tomorrow. The bottom ball joints on mine have excessive lift. Might as well get 309 arms if they improve handling Chris.
mi16nut 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Whilst you can get away with it, most recommend 309 driveshafts with 309 arms. 205's, being a bit shorter, can pop out on full lock. Toe out can be kept the same, but you should get it re-tracked as you'll have to wind out the track rod ends. Mark.
Guest chris1993GTI Posted April 9, 2006 I'll price up some 309 driveshafts too then. I need a new steering rack anyway. The inner joint is shot on the N/S. Are the inner joints rebuildable? Cheers
tagy 1 Posted April 9, 2006 Also if you have a 1.6, you will need 1.9 hubs and discs, as the 309 gti driveshafts dont fit 1.6 hubs. On a 1.9 you just need the wishbones and driveshafts. Got mine tracked now to parrallel, guy in tyre place was insisting it had to be done to +2 toe-in as per wall chart, till the boss told him to do what I wanted. Enjoying the little bit of negative camber
Guest chris1993GTI Posted April 9, 2006 Cheers:) Mines a 1900 so just shafts and arms. I'm fully restoring it so might as well get the underside done for handling now before it has the new panels and respray. Loving this forum already!! Chris.
Phil H 16 Posted April 10, 2006 If you are running 1.6 hubs, surely you can fit the 309 standard diesel or 309 XS injection driveshafts with the 309 wishbones ? Anyone clarify?
