Piper 270 Cam

Recommended Posts

Ive got a highflow head with piper 270 cam coming to me soon. Im wanting to hear from people with experience or good knowledge of this cam. Just how lumpy is it and whats the driveability like for it.

Reason I ask is I have 2 gti engines, one standard apart from flowed head and the other is standard engine but on R1 carbs (work in progress). Would I better putting the head and cam onto the carbed motor and buying a catcam or something for the one with already flowed head or just dump the head with cam into the one that has a flowed head and run it on normal injection then put a lumpier cam in the carbed engine using the old flowed head?

My understanding is a 270 isn't much different to a standard one.

Also Carbs are better suited to lairy cams then the standard induction.

I'd fit the flowed head to the carbs with a "man cam".

yeah I know the standard cam is very good asit is but know nothing about the 270 cam. If its only mildly better than the standard then I'll just pop that into the injection engine and as you say use a lairy lumpy stick with one of the flowed heads with the carbs.

Sounds like you are going the right way... Buy a nice CatCam for the sporty engine and drop the 270° into the injection head... Think it has only a couple of degrees more duration than standard and is usually good for less than 5bhp...

In hindsight I wouldn't have got the Piper cam 270' on my car but would've gone for a nice Catcam.

In my opinion they aren't worth the difference over standard.

well Ive posted this on other forums and a decision is now made. The flowed head in the 205 is staying put and a lumpy catcam closer to the 300 degree is going in, also the carbs will be going into the 205. Im also getting a 421 mani and SS system to compliment it then it will be RR tuned.

The Injection system from the 205 is going over to the 306 where it will get the other flowed head and the 270 cam which people reckon when set right is good for up to 5bhp max. This will also be RR tuned.

I reckon with the above I will see a tasty figure from the 205 and a half decent figure from the 306 but retain driveability in it as it will be my daily drive.

Ive already put a rebuilt xsi box in the 306 to keep fuel consumption down as well but now torn about my 1.6 box. Shall I dump it in the 205 or keep the 1.9 for the top end?
