Vertical Hydraulic Handbrake

Took the car to a 205 Challenge test day last weekend to try it out. Works rather well :D

A good pull on the lever will lock the rear wheels even in a straight line on dry tarmac! It's just so much easier to use than the cable job.

Not quite used to having the handbrake there yet though... found myself reaching for the old handbrake a few times approaching hairpin bends. Guess I need more practice! :)

The H/Hbrake assembly and adjustable bias valve are from CompBrake. I'm impressed with it - looks and feels well engineered and reasonably priced too. They do a horizontal lever version as well but I don't know where that could be fitted into a 205 while still retaining the original handbrake for MOT's.

The brackets it's bolted down to are homemade - just pieces of steel sheet folded into partial boxes, edges trimmed to the profile of the exhaust tunnel, nuts welded inside, then welded into the car and sprayed.

Pipework is just standard copper brake pipe (£5 for 25' from my local motor factors).

The positioning seems to work well, it's in easy reach and I can get good arm strength onto the lever. Doesn't seem to get in the way of gear changes - it's a bit close in reverse but then I shouldn't need to use it when going backwards!

Does the pin in the upright lever fit snugly through the m/c joint on yours? Mine are blatantly different sizes, need to bush the joint, bloody annoying!

Yes it fits fine, sounds like you have the wrong size rod end [insert smutty comment here]. You can buy them separately from Rally Design etc., or if it's part of a kit, get them to send you the right one.
