matty_gti 20 Posted April 3, 2006 Ive just had a rebuilt head put on my 86k mile 1.6 GTI (8V). It now runs sweet as a nut after fixing the idle problems, reliesd today the wrong inlet manifold gasket was used and was blocking 3/4 of the injector hole , but ive finally got it running sweet as after fixing that and retracking my AFM . I want to change the oil to somthing more perfromane enriched and to somthing that will prolong my engines life. Has any one got any good recommendations??? Cheers. Dino 3 Posted April 3, 2006 Ive just had a rebuilt head put on my 86k mile 1.6 GTI (8V). It now runs sweet as a nut after fixing the idle problems, reliesd today the wrong inlet manifold gasket was used and was blocking 3/4 of the injector hole This is such a common issue. I had this on my first 1.9 when i had the head rebuilt. The gasket was ordered and fitted by the mechanic who didnt realise that it was the wrong gasket
Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted April 4, 2006 Oil wise I use Millers XS-S 10/40 semi synth as I have done a test before and it gave better oil pressure across the range. Only use Peugeot / Purflex oil filters though ass these have a special one way valve in them
huxley309 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Ive used millers before and it's ok when the engines run in i'll be switching to motul competition 300v 10w40 or 15w50 in the summer
dodsworth_gti 11 Posted April 5, 2006 im using millers atm!!!
les3002 0 Posted April 5, 2006 any 10/40 will do just change it more often (3k) not like its a high performance modern engine. may actually be 15/40, whatever pug recommend.
Guest rowbertoe Posted April 5, 2006 I use millers fully synth racing 10w/40 or silkolene pro-s 10w/
huxley309 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Yeah ive used silkolene pro-s and it's very good also liked the colour it came in but i find this motul stuff slightly better at reducing oil drag

Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 6, 2006 What is it with people... WHY do you love telling people what oil you use?! It's been discussed to death many times so a search reveals all!!
rich_w 0 Posted April 7, 2006 (edited) Jon Its one of those questions where the answer changes every 6 monhs I use Millers Semi 10/40 its good stuff, i went around half of castle combe oil-less and got off lightly.... (one one 'pair' of shells damaged - this was on a just rebuilt engine if that makes any difference?). Edited April 7, 2006 by rich_w
