You're a bit sparse with you details.

There's a s*it load of wires in the dash behind the hazard light switch!

Tell us the symptoms of the problem and someone will put you on the right track man!

it would apear that the timing is out,she starts, but runs very roughly, but when you try and give it fuel it die's and puffs smoke out of the carbs, which to me seems like it will be timing,no loud bangs or rattling though as if the valves hit the pistons?!?!then it was suggested that the ignition timing might have gone to put, thats when i thought about the wire,it ran mint when i stoped it,did some work on her, which is when i damaged the wire, then went to start it and it was like this!!!!!thought the wire might have been something to do with the ecu,but i am telling myself it is the timing so i am prepared for the worst!!!lolany help would be great!!!

It's unlikely that the wire behind the dash switches will effect the engine as the engine loom is pretty seperate and runs from the engine to under the steering column so not too close to the switches.

What 'damage' did you do to the wire and did you fix it afterwards? Perhaps a pic of that would help us with diagnosis?

With regard to the timing, could the cambelt have slipped a tooth or 2 perhaps? When was it last changed and when you last started the car did it make any unusual noises or do anything strange?

You said you're running carbs...

You won't be using the ECU then will you?

its on carbs, but dont the ignition still run through the ecu???i dont know to much about it lol!!!

the belt was changed about 2000 miles ago if that!!!!

will get a pic of the wire that i damaged, but i didnt try to repair it!!!!

the car didnt make any funny noises, and when it is sort of running,i cant hear any bad noises!!(apart from the way it is ticking over, not no noise of valve's hitting pistons though!!
