Pas Appears To Have Stopped Assisting.

The PAS on my 205 feels odd. Its gone slightly heavier, but doesn't feel like its gone completely. Hard to explain.

The steering is probably the only major part, except the wiring, that I haven't given any attention to. The car has done 161k now so its probably time to investigate.

I don't know very much about PAS, so what would be the best plan of attack to get it working. Assuming I can get it working are there any items that I should change like bushes or joints? The fluid will need doing obviously.

Thanks,

Take it off you dont need it <_<

I'm suprised how light the steering still is on mine with the PAS stuff removed.

Is the pump squeaky?

Mine has been a few times, i filled the reservoir up to the "level hot" dotted line and it's been fine ever since(? - i think my pump is on its way out though)

cheapest option is to convert to electric power steering i believe as a new pump costs a fortune!

Waiting for someone to suggest that. That is one option.

The pump isn't squeaky, I did look at the main site at the electric conversion. That maybe a good move in the future. The steering on the my 106 rallye was nicely waited and that was electric.

I may change the fluid anyway. I wonder if theres a way to test the pump.

My pump used to groan/squeek a little bit when it worked. One of my pipes broke and it leaked over my mates drive  he wasn't pleased lol.

My PAS was a pain - it juddered and moaned at low speeds, and i considered it just another thing to go wrong so took it off.

It also uses the cam pulley, so must sap a little bit of power in use

The Mi setup is different, cam driven.

I think its the pump, so I can fix it for a few quid and easier than removing the ram and pipe work.
