Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted April 2, 2006 Just got back from a rolling road day, I made a measly 92bhp ATW in a 1.9gti with flowed head. The guy doing the rollers though really knows his stuff and he reckoned it was running lean. Could this be a weak fuel regulator not holding enough fuel pressure? The pumps recently been replaced qith a known good 1.9 pump from a late 1.9 205 challenge car. He reckoned a power boost valve would solve it but Id rather stick to just a good regulator if thats all thats needed. It wasnt the rollers either as others made the expected power. Also the guy commented on how healthy the engine seemed considering it was running lean
boldy205 75 Posted April 2, 2006 (edited) stick a fuel pressure gauge on it and have a look. should be between 2.9 - 3.1 bar. you could also check the flow rate which should be 2.2litres /min. on a std. engine. The fact that you have a flowed head may mean you need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to use the head to its full potential? hope that helps. also when you take into account the transmission loss and the fact that those cars dont realy make a lot more power with just headwork alone (think from people on here carbs and a big camshaft are needed for any decent gains)it could be about right? (not slagging off the headwork mind!!) Edited April 2, 2006 by boldy205
boombang 2 Posted April 2, 2006 can do two easy checks for fuelling - stick a new set of plugs in, go for a play, remove and check the colour OR have exhaust gasses checked. If it was a decent set of rollers I'd have though he'd have had an exhaust gas analyser rather than mere guesswork?
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted April 2, 2006 sorry should of said, he was using gas analyser thats how he knew it was lean. He said theres plenty left in the engine if I can get the fuel into it.
hengti 2 Posted April 2, 2006 i've an FSE fitted to mine; when they're properly adjusted, they can help in setting up the fuelling presume your guy took the cap off your AFM and tried adjusting the mixture like that - ?
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted April 2, 2006 no didnt do anything, was just an RR day not a tune up. Ive ordered a boost valve now so I'll get that on have a tinket then get it back on rollers for a tune ASAP.
