Do The Same Rules Apply To Gasket Size.

Haynes says to measure the piston protusion to decide which thickness gasket to choose for my XUD7T diesel engine.

Does this still apply when you have had a head skimmed, my head will be reaching it refinishing limit after this skim and someone said that I should choose the thickest gasket that I can get for the replacement.

Is this true?

Hmm, the piston protrusion shouldn't have changed since the engine was made though so if you still have the original gasket see how many notches are on it but with the head skimmed near the refinishing limit you might need a thicker gasket.

Best asking a diesel specialist though just incase.

Well after inspecting the old gasket I've discovered that the kid I bought the car off did not use the right gasket in the first place (looks like it was for a 1.9 XUD as it did not have the 1.7 XUD notch in the middle NOR did it have the notch detoning that the gasket is for the turbo'ed viarity) its no wonder the gaket blew!

But thanks for the reply though Graham.

I'll ask the skimmer too, he may not be a diesel specialist but he must be 65 :D
