Guest TSL 333 Posted April 1, 2006 My rear n/s wheel bearings on my MY88 (F) Peugeot 205 1.6 GTI collapsed a couple of weeks ago. I removed the drum and saw that the ballbearings were totally knackered - so I bought the new ones and got my Haynes manual out. It said that the replacement of the wheel bearings was a specialist procedure that required a special Peugeot tool so I dropped off the drum and new bearings at the local garage who changed them over. All fine till this morning till I tried to fit the drum back on and it will not fit. My theory is that the outer sleeve of the wheel bearing is still on the threaded shaft that the drum oes over and all bolts onto. Please see photos below of the backplate etc with my markings on what I consider should be removed. If this is the case, please can someone let me know how to get it off. Nah, if that's the other half of the old bearing, it should have come of when the drum did. Unless it's been spinning on the shaft, perhaps it's welded on. Bet that cheered you up. IIRC, when we did ours there was nothing on that shaft bar the rubber seal on the end (which you should have got with your new bearings? ) You could cut through it, but might be a bit dodgy, you don't want to mark the shaft. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted April 1, 2006 Looks like the inner race of the old bearing is still on the shaft (often happens imo), either a bearing puller is needed to get it off or protect the end of the stub axle & drift it out of the radiius arm to get it off. If you use the later method the hub nut needs to be done up mega tight to re-seat the stub axle properly in the radius arm. (220lbft, slacken off & retighten to 180lbft.) Graham.
