Caliper Pistons?

Recommended Posts

jim205GTI

Changing the rear discs and pads over on the 306 today and noticed the piston had like a cross design on it..... am i right in thinking these are the screw type pistons rather then just the normal push back ones?

And does anyone have any tips in getting them back in..don't really want to gain a tool i will probably only use once :P

also went to change the handbrake cable....got the cable of the lever on the caliper but how the hell do you get it through the hole ;)

I usually use a screwdriver and wedge it across the piston to rotate it... failing that some thin nosed pliers usualy work... it's just a case of improvise really ;)

re the outer sleeve of the handbrake cable attached to the caliper .

its just an interference fit into the hole. Be carefull trying to get it out because its very easy to snap the casting off the caliper. It will be well coroded into the hole , try soaking it a couple of day before , try a vise grips on the end and try to wriggle it out , i've also done it by removing the old inner cable and getting a punch or deep socket to knock it back out .

I have the wind back tool, but like said above. A set of decent long nose pliers or grips work fine.

Also once the handbrake cable is out, its worth spending 5 mins cleaning them up, and giving a little slippery stuff. Should u ever need to remove again

its also easier to wind the piston bk in if you undo the bleed nipple.
