Oil Filter Question!?!?!

Recommended Posts

Guest thug_life_inc

Hi People,

I got my Black 205 Gti this week, and still I have a lot of work to do on it. My question is about the oil filter, it is floating in the air, conected only to 2 oil pipes? Is this normal? If it is not, how should it be repaired? And is it dangerous... Need advices as I am still new with this car.

Respect You All 205GTIDrivers!!!

Super Josh

PAS and AC equipped cars have a remote oil cooler/filter mounted onto the side of the gearbox. Although the cast bracket is very weak and often breaks, leaving the assembly dangling in mid air.

Revla, are You sure? Cause I haven't seen one like this before. And another thing the Oil Preasure meter is not working properly, it shows different numbers all the time. :D

Sorry, corrected my post, it should have read PAS ( Power Assisted Steering ) and AC ( Air Conditioning ). Does your car have either of these? Pug fitted the remote oil cooler for two reasons. On PAS and AC equiped cars it is difficult to change the oil filter in the standard position because either the PAS pump or the Air Con compressor make access difficult. It also helps to get the oil up to temperature.

The whole assembly is quite heavy and i wouldn't risk running the car without it secured properly, if one of the oil pipes splits then you will loose your engine oil very quickly. As a temporary fix you could undo the take off plate from the block and screw the oil filter back into its normal position. You will still need to do something with the two coolant hoses that connect to the oil cooler, you could disconnect them from the oil cooler and join them together with a short piece of metal pipe( plumbing etc. )

hope that helps,

Josh

I see that you are a Tracy Chapman fan?

Thanks Josh,

I thing my car has Power Assisted Steering, So I hope it is normal for the filter, but still will doublecheck allthis, cause as You say it may cause oil leak and I can damage the engine. Thanks a lot!
