Wilwood 300mm 4-pot Conversion

Recommended Posts

Mac210882

Hi Guys,

Im new here, so you wont know the username, but Ill be sticking around for a while having bought a 1.9GTi. Looking around the forums, I see that a common brake conversion is to use the 206/307 setup of 284mm(?) rotors and single pot calipers.

On my previous car, I went for a 300mm x 28mm Wilwood 4-pot upgrade using custom bells and caliper mounting brackets which were awesome. To give you an idea, they were pounded with three consecutive laps of the Nordschleife on one of the hottest days last summer on my Punto Turbo, and they never faded.

I still have all of the kit and Im looking to transfer it over to the 205 soon. If the measurements are favourable (i.e. the rotor and caliper will sit behind a standard 15 rim) then Ill be getting some brackets and mounting bells designed on CAD and machined from lightweight alloy.

Has anyone done anything similar, and would there be any interest in producing these mounting brackets and part numbers for the full Wilwood conversion for the 205 community?

Heres a quick picture of them sitting on my old car (thats a 16 wheel)

Think a few people are using Willwood 4 pots - am sure Jonmurgie is running these with a 285mm disc and had to use spacers plus some caliper shaving to make them fit.

Could be wrong, and no doubt more knowledgable folk will respond to this

surely you can contact wilwood and just buy the caliper mounting brackets and alloy bells?

Ya can't really tell from this pic, but they're just over 300mm discs (32mm thick) on a 1.9 hub carrier :)

Know for a fact that they won't fit in the 15" speedline though :)

EDIT> oops, forgot the piccy!

I run a Wilwood setup... as Gav says it's a 285mm disc and I had a few fitting issues, they would have been completley resolved by using a 5mm spacer but I didn't want to so ground a little off the caliper. There's a thread about it all here: http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=40783 though as I say I ditched the spacers and they have been fine.

I think the calipers were an older design and the newer ones are a little smaller...

Rally Design are the official Wilwood importers so perhaps give them a bell for some advice etc. :)

When i brought my wilwood kit from them they said it would fit behind standard wheels but it didn't. I no longer own them now but the current owner has gone for Comp MO's to resolve the fitting issue...
