Which 13cm Rear Speakers Are People Using?

Recommended Posts

Guest djuk

Been down to halfords today to browse their 13cm range and seems a bit tricky as a lot of speakers seem to have large tweeters built in which as far as i can see could get in the way of the standard rear grills?

Im not looking for serious sounds just to get rid of the very non original 6x9s and keep some volume - what makes/models are people using in the standard rear grills?

I use boston acoustics. The tweeter does hit the grille but sand down the ribs on the reverse of the grill with a mini drill and they fit OK (ish). I had JBL ones in my last 205 and did the same. The tweeter will be solid mounted so if it touches it souldn't effect sound quality.

i would do the same.

get some 13cm components mount the components in the rear then put the tweeters somewhere not seen but can be heard quite well ie in the door bins on the e/l window switches (thats if you have them  )

the rear ones have loads of room, its the fronts you got to worry about.

I have used both Alpine, and JBL, with integral tweeters, and yes clearance is very tight both front and rear, but you can just about get away with it.

I wouldn't bother with the rears. Just get the best front speakers that you can afford (preferably mid & high components) and the a small sub for the rear. All that's required.

Howdy, I have kenwood speakers in the doors and vibe speakers on the shelf.

Got both a lot cheaper on line than in the shops.

i used www.caraudiosecurity.com

They sell all the components, subs amps etc. Happy shopping. :(

Tekno nailed it. Forget upgrading your rear speakers and spend money on the fronts instead. Your ears point forward for a reason ;)

I'd agree with not spending too much on the rear speakers, but a bit of rear fill is nice.

Spend you money up-front as suggested, then just have something fairly cheap in the back, run at low volume. Or fit some door pods so you can angle the front components upwards and backwards - they'll then reflect some sound back from the rear, giving the impression of rear fill ;)
