Help ! I'm Going Mad With 406 Coupe Se

Recommended Posts

Antoni1.9

I am having trouble with my 406 -

It is a September 03 (53) 406 coupe 2.2 HDI SE with JBL amp & sat nav & multichanger and I think it is playing up (it leaves the speakers on and hissing with the engine /ignition off) and flattening the battery - Peugeot cant find anything wrong with it.

Is anyone a Peugeot teccy on here, or does anyone have a late 406 coupe SE with the JBL and Sat Nav and Multichanger - if you do maybe i could ask you to do a couple of simply checks for me?

Many thanks in advance - They have had it 4 times now, I get it back and its the same.

Cheers

Antoni

wild stab in the dark.

have you had the car from new? if not, did the previous owner have a hands free phone kit in? and if its not there now, have they removed it properly?

the only time i've heard of a similar problem was from a 406 sedan, which had been a rep-mobile, and when they sold it on, they just cut through all the cables at the back of the head unit and they were shorting out...

otherwise its time to strip all the audio out and re-install it a piece at a time till you discover whats wrong.

hope this helps, and if not i'd be interested to know what it turns out to be.

At a guess the amp is wired directly to the battery and not through the ignition barrel. So it's always amplifying the residual noise in the speaker circuits (hence the hissing noise), and always draining power.

Easiest way to check would be to turn the amp off, or right down to minium, and see if the battery lasts longer than when it's turned right up.

Aren't amps wired with a switched live from the headunit, so they don't operate without the stereo on?
