eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) I'm having real trouble finding a Head Gasket Set for a S16. GSF tried to give me one but it had 2 cam cover seals rather than the one (s16, & mi16?) so i think that was for a GTi-6. Turns out they don't do a head kit for a S16! Am i right in thinking the S16 is the same as a Mi16? and also that the 2.0 cat 405 Mi16 is also the same engine? I went to another shop (unity) to get a gasket set but it had to be ordered in and they wanted payment first and i wasn't convinced they were ordering the right set anyway. Who do all you S16/Mi16 engine people use for parts? Looking at the euro car parts online it looks like they cater for the the S16 so i'll give them a try. Anyone have any experienve with Euro car parts gasket sets? Anyone know of anywhere where that may have a S16 Gasket Set in stock in or around Guildford,Woking or Reading? Thank you Edited March 28, 2006 by eddie_1.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted March 28, 2006 Ask for for a Top end set for a ZX 16v and a Headgasket for the ZX again, It's there system not them at the desk
eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) Thanks Miles. They seemed to know that the s16 was the same as a ZX 16v as thats what they gave me the head gasket for and water pump, they were just totally confused by it not being a GTi-6 tho. I think i'll just try the GSF round the conrer from work tomorrow and see if i have more luck. Just been onto euro car parts and they list the ZX16v engine code as XU10J4D, Whats the D all about? Is that def the one i want? ( i know its not GSF but its got to be very similar if not the same) To the best of my knowledge (which is very limited): S16 is XU10J4 GTi-6 is XU10J4RS Not sure what a XU10J4R is, if there is such a thing? eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) Ok, I just rang them (a diffent branch than i went to yesterday) and they also swear blind that they don't do any bits for the ZX 16v engine!! I'll give euro car parts a try now and see what they come up with... ....Ok. Just called them and orded a top end gasket set for a ZX 16v with xu10j4 engine code. It's £78.18 + vat. Fingers crossed it right! Edited March 29, 2006 by eddie_1.
petert 587 Posted March 29, 2006 The S16 and 2L Mi16 both had the XU10J4. They have two cam seals, rather than four like an XU9J4. The XU10J4R is different again and was fitted to early 406's, before the EW's.

The GTi-6 has 2 AKAIK - inlet and exhaust cam covers must be seperate. Edited March 29, 2006 by eddie_1.
petert 587 Posted March 29, 2006 eh? I think we're talking about different things here. Cam seals - round seal to stop oil passing out side of head. I think you're talking about cam cover seals.
eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 30, 2006 Oh yes sorry mate. I have now got my gasket set from Euro car parts in the end with no problems told them i wanted a zx 16v kit and they got it in the same day! They did however give me a XU9 head gasket which is totally wrong, just loking at it i can see that the sealling around the oil and water ways is wrong and just not there in places Not to worry though as the one i got from GSF looks right.
