Cylender Head Valve Differences

Recommended Posts

PUGugly

Been talking to a lot of people and there has been quite a lot of differences in valve sizes being talked about depending on the year of the car. Does anybody know for sure the sizes used in the early and late models of each engine and which is the best base head for an engine??

Also I've noticed in the local scrapyards that the 3 heads that we have looked at have had wear right through the head casing where the cam sits in the oil seal before the pulley. Is this a common occurance and what causes this to happen??

Except for the very early 105bhp version of the 1.6 the heads are all the same.

The year of the revised 1.6 engine was 1986, form XU5J to XUJ5A with the following alterations, new camshaft (increased valve lift and overlap), larger valves, new springs and valve guilds and additional bottom end benfits of thicker liners, better rods and bearings (XU5JA)

So in theory any post 86 head will be the same? Assuming it's standard!
