Rev Limits For The 8v Engine

Recommended Posts

PUGugly

[ Have been looking at various tuning information on the 8v engine and some people are saying that a standard 1.6 will happily rev to 7200rpm and a fully balanced one to 8000rpm . I can't find any information on the 1.9 'suggested' rev limits. Any body have any views on this topic they would like to share? What are the best components to balance in and semi balanced block on the weekend budget? Is it worth doing at all??

To be honest, both the 1.6 and 1.9 engines will be way past peak power at those sorts of figures and unless the thing is in good shape, it will not last very long under those circumstances.

Revving an engine is a bit like making love to a beautiful woman, you need to take it gently when cold, service it regularly, and throw a shed load of money at it b4 hand in order to get what you want.

And even then you still get head problems.........Well I did, my Head gasket went after just 20,000.

I had uprated springs and just about reved to 7.5k with a 288 degree cam i would say peak was about 7k with tuned head.

NEED to spend money on bottom end to make it last at those rev's tho :)
