eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 27, 2006 I'm taking my head off to do the head gasket - I'm just at the point of locking the cams and crank pullys. Firstly, I've been trying to line it up as it says in the haynes manual. It say the inlet cam pulley hole should be at 5 o'clock and the exhaust should be at 7 o'clock. I've had no luck with that and started to think my cams were well out of sync. It turns out that the holes only line up with the inlet at about 7 o'clock and the exhaust at 5 o'clock. So thats a bit odd, but am sure its right as thats where both the dowel holes are in the head. If thats clear what I mean? I'm guessing this lining position up is normal for an s16/mi16 engine? Secondly, the Haynes manual says that the tensioner should be loosened then turned clock-wise (as you look at it) to loosen the belt. - With where the square hole is on my tensioner a clock-wise movement would tighten the belt . is my tensioner 180 degrees out? when i refit my new one, which way round should it be? does it matter? I've attempted a picture to show the square hole in the tensioner & cam pulley holes so you know what i mean: Cheers guys
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 28, 2006 Looking in the Haynes manual for a Citroen ZX, changing the cambelt on the XU10J4 engine the pulleys should be at approximately; Inlet cam - 8 o'clock Exhaust cam - 6 o'clock. So your's must be right. I wouldn't worry to much about the tensioners having to be turned in a different way to that stated in the Haynes manual, just turn them whatever way you have to to slacken or tension the belt like it should be. I'm fairly sure that the tensioners on the Mi engine I have on my engine stand downstairs need turning in the same direction as yours. With everything locked properly you can't go wrong imo. Graham. eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 28, 2006 wheres the best place to get a cambelt and tensioner set from for an s16??and how much should i be looking to pay? I just got back from GSF, Belt (their part No N13115) = £15.75 Tensioners (their part No N13040) = £37.50. Then there's VAT added to those prices.

eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 29, 2006 Actually totally ignore all the part numbers and prices i posted. I went to fit the tensioners they gave me and they're totally wrong! I'm not having much luck with the head gasket set either (see my other thread). When i finally get it sorted i will post up their item numbers and costs, if you will not be needing them today as it may take day or to go get this sorted

pug309twin40s 1 Posted March 29, 2006 the tensioner at the bk is the same as the 1.9mi16 tensioner. the front tensioner should be on a big plate that you can only get from peugeot.
