matty_gti 20 Posted March 26, 2006 cool, cheers for that. I dont think its the manifold tho because i can run my ear along the cover and it goes all the way along and it gets louder when i pass over the 3 bolts. however it doesnt get louder at all under load or accelerating, when i rev it it just ticks faster???. What are shims in the head?, i red in another post it mite be these?
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted March 26, 2006 shims are like flat pates that sit in 'buckets' between the valves and the cam. When they wear the gap between cam and valve becomes enlarged and causes ticking noise.
