Extreme Ticking Help

Recommended Posts

Richie-Van-GTi

My cars developed a loud ticking noise, not overly loud and sounds like its coming from the head at the pulley end but not the pulley. Its always ahd a slight ticking noise but its now got a fair bit louder. Seems to be most noticebale under load. Could do with a few pointers on what to check. The cambelt is due andshould be done this week sometime so if its a head off job then Id rather know now :P

Hmm, never thought of that and I did change the injectors yesterday which is when I noticed how loud the ticking had become. Maybe I'll switch back and see if its quieter.

Thanks

Could be injectors... they can get quite noisy, especially refurbished ones I find!

Although if it gets louder under load then I'd suggest you've got a leaking or cracked exhaust manifold... get the car running and with a piece of pipe (hose pipe or something) and move it around the enging to help locate the sound, that should help you figure out exaclty what it is :D

Definatley agree with Jon on this, i had a similar ticking noise which became very loud, swapped my manifold over to one with no cracks and it stopped.

manifold is fine, not th injectors and seem to be coming from inside the head at the pulley end. Im guessing its just worn shims so I'll have them measuered up and replaced over next few days.

Hold it near the manifold / downpipe & any leaks will blow it.

I just use my hand & feel around to find any leaks, can get hot but usually they are found quickly.

Graham.
