Ryan 99 Posted March 25, 2006 My Mi16 engine has a BE1 gearbox. It's in far better condition than my current BE3 gearbox so i'm going to use the Mi box when I fit the engine. I know I need a BE1 gearstick and lift-up cable. I also know that I can keep the current BE3 clutch mechanism as all Mi boxes have the BE3-style clutch. The only thing I'm puzzled over is the gear linkage. Do I need to swap over either of the selectors from the GTI BE3 onto the Mi BE1? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Ryan 99 Posted March 26, 2006 AFAIK the clutch is only different on 205 BE1s. Mi16 gearboxes all have a BE3-type clutch regardless of whether they are BE1 or BE3. The BE3 stuff is already promised to a mate, but if he changes his mind then you can have first refusal. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
16v205 9 Posted March 26, 2006 I had an old BE1 Mi16 gearbox a few years ago, If i remember right the top arm at the back of the gearbox is a different shape & the ball is at a different angle to the 205's gbox so the linkage's wont fit properly. Just knock out the rollpin and swap the arm over from a 205 gbox, but dont let the inner tube fall into the gearbox incase it dislodges anything. Also the lift reverse mechanism is only there to prevent you selecting reverse by mistake, it doesnt stop you getting reverse by not having the cable fitted. If you need to use the car you can leave what your using now in the car while looking for a lift reverse setup. Rich Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
