kenan 0 Posted March 25, 2006 Just been to a rolling road and my standard MI gave 144BHP @ the fly. Would be interestd to find out what other people have got from thir car. Mines got an air filter and full stainless exhaust. So tell my your figures......
Jonmurgie 2 Posted March 26, 2006 Blimey, you sure that's @ the Fly cause that's about 20/25bhp down on what it should be... where did you get it RR'd? I had my Mi dyno'd at 170bhp @ Fly with ITG Filter and 4-2-1 Manifold with single backbox (that was on the PowerStation dyno).

Did the operator give u any pointers as to where ur losing power ? Its not uncommon for worn engines to be down on power. But that seems quite a lot.
Toddy 7 Posted March 26, 2006 Mine put out 161BHP a couple of years ago, std with a K&n.
hengti 2 Posted March 26, 2006 alot of people's favourite topic this one! numbers are rubbish - ignore them had my std 1.9 rr'd over the years at various garages (due on Powerstation's next Sat) corrected fly figures have varied from 110-140bhp; same state of tune i just don't bother reading anything into the numbers anymore - just treat the tuning process as a reassurance that the engine has been set up to be as reliable/efficient as it can be; don't worry about the numbers my opinion anyway

You need to keep using the same place each time to get some numbers you can rely on (ish). To build up a picture over time to see where things are going.. Different dyno's and different work practices can introduce a LOT of varyance. One roller or two? Do they measure for losses? Were your tires and exactly the same pressure for each run? the same diameter? The width and aspect ratio? Same tread type? car the same mass on each run? The list goes on and on.. Can you trust the guy with the dyno? Have you had some engine work done there? Is the result being slightly fiddled to boost the percieved output? Your right about not taking the numbers as the most important thing, But the dyno shouldn't be disregarded as a tool, just used correctly.. JB
Ahl 4 Posted March 26, 2006 Hengti is right, RR's are notorious for different power figures, but the problem is that its not a tuning process, hes just had a power figure taken. Without any before or after figures to compare it to then he'll want it to mean something. What was the wheel figure they gave you? On an accurate rolling road a healthy 1.9 mi should put out at least 134bhp at the wheels. (approx 160hp fly)
kenan 0 Posted March 26, 2006 WEll I was firstly after other people dyno results. My engine was rebuilt just over 12K ago so not old etc and the rollers seemd spot on. A GTI 180 got 166, an Astra GSI put in 150 on the dot (Book figures) and a standard 106 GTI put in 134 (Good result for standard) and a 206 GTI put in 140. All in all the rollers seemed fine to me and they are a good set being Dyno Dynamics. After my results the car started miss firing and found water in teh spark plug holes (about 1cm+ deep), which I am hoping was causing the car to not produce the correct spark etc. Either way not happy with the power results, see below: Flywheel Power Wheel Power + Torque
