Weight Of 15" Wheels

Recommended Posts

Leon C

I am after a set of 15" wheels that are lighter than my standard GTi 15" speedlines. Does anyone know the exact weights of aftermaket wheels such as speedline and OZ etc. Also the weight of the standard ones would be useful. Cheers.

Try a search (one of my favorite sayings) but this has been covered several times before.

I believe that the OZ Supperleggars are pretty much the lightest 15" rim you can get shor to fspending mega bucks on some magnesium delights. Sean had a set on his Mi track car and there is a thread somewhere on the forum with the standard wheel weights compared to the speedline ones.

without searching the forum, (am lazy, you see!) whats the difference between 1.9 speedlines with 'france' stamped on and ones with 'italy'?

mine are italy, and someone somewhere once said my 'italys' are lighter than his 'frances'

anyone want to clarify?

ok. it was worth a try.

and when i find out i'm gonna post on here to prove i did it.

i'm a good lad, cos my mam says i am!

So say, the italian speedline originals (with recessed lettering) are lighter than the french copy (with raised lettering)

can't say I've noticed any practical difference though

I had some 15" Speedlines, 2 french and 2 italian. I had a long hard look at these and thought to notice that the french ones where a little bit more smoother/rounder near the bolt holes. But this has no significant effect. I Didn't weigh them so i don't no the difference there.

Glenn.

The same goes for these as the 15" wheels, Speedlines are the best (weight and quality) then the French ones (SMR and homebrew), Belgum ones

there now. no need for replies such as 'seek and ye shall find'

point taken!

and it looks like i should be pleased that my rims are italy.

Speedline 2020s are 5.5kg and gorgeous! Shame they're something like £300 a corner. Can't beat the old Superleggeras for the price.

For the 1.9 GTi wheel weights (since you did try searching in the end)...

Italian made Speedline = 8.0kg

French made SMR = 9.1kg

Which wheels are those peter? I always try to work it out but I can't pinpoint the right ones. Some ugly lightweight wheels could be handy. ;)

cheers bud.

i'd say 1.1 kg per wheel is quite a difference in unsprung weight

not that an average motorist like me would notice, but its the kind of thing formula 1 would pay 6 million quid to develop!

Just find a base C5 with a dress rim, not a full alloy wheel. There's heaps of them.

Ah ok, dress rim = wheel covers, so steel wheels then?

No, aluminium.

Where did you get yours from peter? Do all non-alloyed C5s have the alum wheels, or do some have steel ones?

I bought them from the local Citroen dealer. All C5 wheels are aluminium.

I'll be looking for a set of those then.;) Been thinking of getting some 15" non GTi alloys for the STDT to use some of the tyres I have downstairs & they'll do the job perfectly. B)

They look ideal!

How much did you pay for them?

Did you use the standard 15" 205 Gti wheel bolts, or C5 ones?

Looking at the picture Peter attached they look like they have a taper seat so the standard GTi bolts won't work.

You'd need some from either a 205 that had steel wheels or a C5. (or better still a stud conversion & some spare taper seat nuts. :P)

Graham.

The tapered bolts from other Pugs with steel wheels would fit.
