eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 24, 2006 I'm off down to GSF this afternoon to get the parts is need to do a top end rebuild on my S16. Think i've listed all the bits i'll need but have i forgotten any? I've got on my list: Head gasket set Cam Belt Belt tensioners Water pump Head bolts And might as well do these too: Thermostat Alternator belt Is there anything else worth doing while it's in bits? Anthony 1,003 Posted March 24, 2006 Get the valve seats and valves recut 3-angle as they'll probably be looking a bit worse for wear by now, and check the valve guides for excessive play (16v heads seem to be OK usually - it's 8v ones that wear terribly particularly on the exhaust side) Valve stem seals come as part of the head gasket set, so make sure you change them as a matter of course. Check the cams and lifter faces for wear, and clean the cam spray bar with carb cleaner and compressed air. Are you only doing the head, or are you planning to do the bottom end as well? If you're doing the bottom end as well, then do the bearing shells and check the crank for sure (as these seem as prone to failure as the Mi16 ones from what I've seen/heard) and if the block is stripped bare, then getting it skimmed back to zero-deck height apparently has good results (do a search on PeterT's posts)
eddie_1.9 1 Posted March 25, 2006 Cheers Anthony. Will do all the things you've mentioned but I'm not doing the Bottom end.
