Maf Type Afm?

Recommended Posts

I heard a rumour that jetronic BMW's can replace their moving vane type AFM with a MAF/"hotwire" type from a certain model saab.

anyone know if this is also do-able with the 205gti, as they run essentially the same injection system?

Not heard of any direct replacements, but lots of people have used some kind of piggyback thing to control a MAF.

Don't an AFM and MAF measure different things (airflow vs air mass)?

If so then I don't think it could be just a simple plug-in replacement.

Yup, but Motronic may be able to use it. Jetronic certainly can not though.

Think they both measure the same thing, the volume of air going into the engine, they just measure it in different ways.

Nope,

If I remember correctly Air flow takes no account of air density whereas air mass does.

ok,

'tis a question of doing that and seeing how much improvement there is, or running an aftermarket ecu setup, which would be in the vicinity of $1500 NZ, installed and tuned. seems i'll have to go the latter to be rid of the moving vane afm
