Guest percy Posted March 21, 2006 Just noticed that the compressor on the horn (205 gti) seems to have given up the ghost. I can't see any easy way of access in order to replace it. Can you get to it by removing the slam panel?

Guest bernieslaven Posted March 27, 2006 Remove the headlight to get to it. Hi, Been searching for a post on horns and found this - my horn is weak as p*ss, and cannot be heard at all when the engine is running - though it does make a noise. I couldn't find a horn after removing the slam panel, grille, and fan housing though it was making a pathetic attempt to sound!! I`ve a Morette twin-headlight conversion, so removing the passenger side h/light will hopefully reveal the horn. Out of interest does anyone know if a 'dodgy' headlight conversion affect the wiring of other circuits? i.e. could an earthing problem be responsible for the p*ss weak horn sound - or has it just had its day and i need a new one? Jonmurgie 2 Posted March 27, 2006 Horns do wear out so it's probably just tired... get another one from a scrap yard, word has it one from a 405 fits and is a fair bit louder (twin airhorn I believe)
Rob_the_Sparky 10 Posted March 27, 2006 Also do a search on horns - they all sound like a clown's car and there are some useful threads on the subject.
aeinstein 0 Posted March 27, 2006 Horns do wear out so it's probably just tired... get another one from a scrap yard, word has it one from a 405 fits and is a fair bit louder (twin airhorn I believe) the horn on my 205 was a bit muffled. on further inspection, the aperture of one of them was facing up and was doing its best impression of a pint glass. quick trip to scrappy revealed a blue 205 xld (RIP) which gave up its twin horns, and now you can hear the horn before i enter the village! al

Guest bernieslaven Posted March 27, 2006 Found this in another horn thread... Just stripped down my compressor and horn and got it working again OK, but only on the high tone. There was only one hose, from the compressor outlet straight to the top horn (?) - is there a T-piece of some sort usually fitted that will supply both horns? Took the top off the compressor, found a loose spring inside (?), chucked this. I'm assuming the white powder and 'sponge' are dessicant to soak up any moisture from the air inlet? Anyways this powder had been blown through the whole system, blocking the horn inlet channel and fouling up the inner metal horn components (diaphragms ?) - prised these out and cleaned them all out, took the little rubber compressor blades out and cleaned them up, cleaned up the contacts, voila, it works Am gonna get the headlight off tomorrow as am off werk all week, and try the clean up method - if the horn noise is still embarrassing (and practically inaudible) i will pick up a nautilus or equivalent from Halfrauds. My other option is to call Blackbushe scrappy (Hampshire) wherei`ve picjked up a few wings, front bumper with spoiler and a headlight before - good lads if you're in the area. Cheers for input lads Best Regards Daryl
