Turboing My Mi16

As most of you know, I have 205 gti with an Mi16, running cams, TB's, fully programmable management, etc etc. The full works, including direct port nos.

Well I am getting bored so I have decided to turbo the car.

My good friend Cybernck found me an original T16 manifold, and I have started the process.

Step 1. Might not sound like part of the turbo process, but I have fitted a 13" wilwood setup with 4 pot calipers.

Step 2. Fitted the manifold on a dummy engine and made an adaptor to turn the turbo 90 degress.

Step 3. Relocated my A/C filter /drier bottle, so I can fit the 106 electric power steering pump.

Step 4. Fitted the 106 power steering pump so I can remove the mechanical pump on the gearbox.

Step 5. Removed the power steering pump from the cam and the gearbox.

Step 6. Fitted an uprated intank fuel pump to deal with fuel supply for both the nos and the turbo.

 

Thats it up to yesterday. I have all the bits I need, just time.

Next step is to remove radiator and air-conditioning fans from in front and fit new slim line fans on the inside to make room for the intercooler.

 

Also Iam in the process of making a collector box for the TB's, to allow the plumbing from the intercooler to attach.

Damn, that's some setup your going to have there... what sort of power/torque you running at the moment and what do you expect with the turbo? Is your car a road car and/or track car?

What turbo are you going to be using?

 

You going for big-power, or a light-pressure system for a nice wide power-band?

Aren't the overlap characteristics of your cams gonna be a problem, or you gonna dial them out?

I will be running a T3/T4, T3 exhaust end, T4 compressor. I will also be running a light pressure system for now. I will be building another motor with lower compression for later, but just want to get everything fitted.

The car is my everyday road car with everything fitted.

 

My main problem is space, since I am not removing any amenities.

I am presently working around airconditioning lines and parts, power steering lines and parts, nitrous oxide lines and parts oil cooler lines and parts, plus I am not cutting any metal part of the car.

 

Oh yea, and the car isnt to be off the road for any time. What I do is mock up a complee system on the dummy engine, and then just come and transfer it, that way the car is always driving.

Like the power steering, I had everything fitted for the electric power steering, including wiring and had the old one running, drove to the hydraulic hose manufacturer and switched over lines in his yard in like 10 minutes, removed old pump and drove away on electric power steering.

 

Same thing will happen with the turbo, I have it all mocked up n the engine, so I will remove mt longman manifold and bolt on turbo manifold, turbo, plumb oil lines and return lines and install the down pipe. And drive away with the turbo blowing to the atmosphere. Then deal with the plumbing to the intercooler and intake after.

yay, you've finally posted about it! :D

 

one of the nicest 205's ever is soon to become one of the fastest ever :rolleyes:.

 

and all that in a country very far away, where pugs are exotic machinery and pug parts nearly non-existant! :blush:

 

i must say (again) how proud i am for supplying or finding a few of the parts on the car! B):D
