Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted March 20, 2006 I measured up a rear beam of a 306 and compared it to the 205 beam, its actually 12cm wider, Im wondering would it be possible to create a wider track 205 using one of these? The mounting bolts would need new holes drilling further out in the boot floor and obviously the arches will need extending for the wheels however it would also give a much stiffer ride. Bump stops may need some fettling. Just kind of toying with how possible this is, would boot floor need strengthening around the mounts etc??
Jonmurgie 2 Posted March 20, 2006 Why would you bother (and I don't think it fits anyhow) when you can simply fit a 309 rear beam and get a 25mm wider track
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted March 20, 2006 just to try something new, 309 beams are very hard to find, especially a good one and are selling at over the odds. 306 beams can be found easily and bought cheaply and they are wider and stiffer, they should also last a lot longer. I know it wouldnt be a direct fit, or even a simple fit but could be an interesting experiment.
tom_m 0 Posted March 20, 2006 you'd need a dimma/t16 kit to get the arches anywhere near the wheels tho!
timmsy19 3 Posted March 20, 2006 you'd need a dimma/t16 kit to get the arches anywhere near the wheels tho! i was going to say you would need a dimma kit or wide arch kit for that. its a very good idea and i would say go for it what have u got to lose. plus if u can get it to fit them u will have some serious stability for them country lanes
cybernck 402 1 Cars Posted March 21, 2006 you can simply fit a 309 rear beam and get a 25mm wider track ...per side .
Sandy 191 Posted March 21, 2006 309 beam is 45mm wider overall than 205. 306 beam has 20mm bars, which means it won't be as stiff as 309 beam which has shorter 20mm bars. 306 has more camber, but also more toe-in, which would give better straight line stability and potentially (without getting into the bigger picture) a greater tendency to understeer.
