jamie_st200 1 Posted March 20, 2006 alright people, i have a really bad oil leak on my 1.6 (around a litre and hour) and it seems to be coming from either the crank seal or the strips on the end bearing (i dont know nothing about this, ive just read this from other post on the forum) anyway i had the sump off( as first i thought it was the sump gasket) and from what i can remember there are two bolts on the flywheel end, if i undo these and remove the carrier type cast?!? can i change the rubber strips? if so is there not rubber stips above the crank or just below? or do i have to remove the g/box aswell if so i might as well do the crank seal aswell right? is this as easy as it sounds? just remove the flywheel and pull it out? i dont know what one its coming from just the strips seems easier to replace first.. also where is the best place to get them from and how much am i looking at thanx for any replys... jamie. Anthony 1,003 Posted March 20, 2006 Yes, you'll need to remove the gearbox/flywheel/clutch to replace the flywheel end crank seal I'm afraid
jamie_st200 1 Posted March 20, 2006 what about the strip type sills on the end bearing?
mfield 20 Posted March 20, 2006 what about the strip type sills on the end bearing? Sump off, spreader plate off, two bolts, replace strips and the refit end cap. Make sure you use sealant with the strips particulary at the top n the corners.
simonb 0 Posted March 22, 2006 I would have thought that it is more likely to be the crank seal on the flywheel end for it to leak thst much. If you do replace the rubber strips, dont cut them too short and leave them about 2mm oversize so that they squash up when you refit the sump.
