Checking Condition Of Relays

Recommended Posts

OlberJ

I've taken the 2 suspect relays out of the Mi16 loom and removed the casings and everything looks ok.

How do i check they are working?

What am i looking for to be "bad"?

It's the green and black one and the orange/red one. Any suggestions? I'll post up pics if anyone knows where i should be looking.

Cheers,

what are they for?

if whatever they're for isn't working, I'd be suspicious .... :)

Fuel Pump relay and ignition relay.

This is the 1st step, if these are working then i'll try the others. Small things 1st.

Can you test the fuel pump and the ignition aswell? How would i do that?

Guessing I've missed an earlier thread

further guessing that you're fiddling with a car that is'ne running at the mo - ?!

don't know how you test relays - have you access to another 205 you could substitute them into?

if not, I'd just sit tight until someone who actually knows what they're talking about comes along :)

Here's a couple of pics. Anything look dodgy here?

Is that black charing on the green relay?

And the Orange one, any of these look dry?

The pins are not charred like the green ones are.

Any suggestions?

You have a slight dry joint, your really testing a relay to see if it opens/closes as you'd expect and what resistance it has across the contacts when it is closed.

You need some form of power supply (for a test). But a new relay would be cheaper and easier.

Which one are you talking about, Green or orange?

Green one is £7 and Orange is £20.
