Replacing S16 Manifold With 1.9 Mi16.....

ive been told contrasting info on whether there is anything gained from replacing the s16 inlet manifold with a 1.9mi16 one, has anyone got any info or thoughts on this as ive been offered one cheap? have been told that it wud pull alot beta and another source said that it wud loose me power and bottom end torque, only feeling quicker when it kicks in at 4500ish because its alot slower below that.......

I have heard that they do provide a performance increase. I think the GTI6 inlet is the best on this engine, however there is not much in it.

ye id heard that gti6 provides more, ive been offered a 1.9 manifold for £20 so wanted to found out if it was worth looking into or not otherwise i'l leave it for now......

guys, the bolt pattern is very different and on top of that there are no gains over the 2.0Mi manifold. GTi6 manifold might be a different story, but that does not fit the S16 head either.

GTI6 manifold i fitted to my zx16v made a big difrence, car is now more responsive through the rev range, only downside is it runs a bit lean on motorway driving you get the managment light on if you sit at a constant 3000 rpm for any time but soon as the revs change the light goes out

For best power in a 205 I would actually shorten the standard Mi16 inlet approx 50mm or something.

Should, give a bit top end and mid range.

I measured and drilled new holes in the inlet manifold to suit the dowels. Was a b*tch to line it all up though.

It does with a bit of graft (thanks to Nick with 206 cossie)... tee hee!

I believe Maxi had great results with a similar shortened inlet.

The shortened inlet is OK just not as good as the long one, This aguement goes back many many years, Simple way to look at it is short looses Torque

I guess to see what's the best you'll need mappable ignition and make a good map for both the long and the short one. On standard ignition I guess it could end up a bit wrong.

If you've got the facilities to cut and shut the inlet manifold, it definitely gives a better result in terms of fitment. As for torque, I've never seen any numbers and you certainly can't feel any difference, either in a 205 or an Mi16x4.

ye fitment wise im ok with it being in a 306 so got plenty of room ( i know im the wrong site but i still keep cumin bak on this site for info as its the best by far for any techincal info! ). think i mite leave getting the 1.9 manifold and get a gti6 one when ive got a few £ spare. i dont want to fiddle too much with the lump on the dimma to try and keep it reliable, hopefully buying a new project car soon to "fiddle" with!
