Guest karlos Posted March 19, 2006 As title suggests the biting point on my clutch pedal seems very high. I would say about 1 inch from the top and the pedal itself is about an inch higher than the brake pedal. i havent driven the car for a while so cant remember what it was like before. lol It pulls fine in every gear without any clutch slippage. Just feels a bit high, is it on its way? or is this normal?
cybernck 402 1 Cars Posted March 20, 2006 well the biting point goes up as the clutch plate wears. you can easily adjust it though .
karlos72 0 Posted March 20, 2006 Hmmm, how easily? Bear in mind i struggle to adjust the seat sometimes.
cybernck 402 1 Cars Posted March 21, 2006 well not easily as the seat... . there are a couple of nuts holding the clutch cable end connected to the clutch arm on the gearbox. thanks.
karlos72 0 Posted March 21, 2006 I dont know alot about cars obviously, but im trying to learn and reading old posts etc. Will need more detailed instructions on clutch cable adjustment. ie. Will i need to jack the car up?, do i need a spanner? etc Thanks for your patience.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 22, 2006 How does your clutch pedal sit compared to the brake pedal? Should be slightly higher, not below. Clutch cable adjustment is easy, choice is yours whether you work from underneath or above but above you'll need to remove some of the intake piping to get at the cable end from above. Depending on how old the cable is the threads might be rusty & you risk shearing the threaded bar. You'll need a 10mm & 13mm spanner & maybe a pair of grips to hold the rod if the threads are rusty stopping the 13mm nut turning freely. Loosen the 10mm locknut & pull the cable towards the front of the car. Tighten the 13mm nut so it sits higher & then lock it up again with the 10mm nut. If the biting point is very high the clutch is nearly worn out imo as a badly adjusted clutch makes gear selection harder as the biting point is so close to the end of travel. Graham. karlos72 0 Posted March 22, 2006 Clutch pedal position is slightly higher than the brake. This guide is great, thanks. May have a crack at it at the weekend although im gonna try and make this Harewood thing on Sunday as its not far from where i live. If your there maybe you can give me some pointers? I changed the ns indicator today as the lens had fallen off. Once installed there seems to be a problem. When indicating left it goes really fast and the front indicator doesnt flash although the back and side do. Im guessing this means the bulb has gone. I reckon i touched it when changing the indicator and i know you shouldnt. Also, quite amusingly, i bought one of those Nautilus air horns to replace the standard item which sounded a bit crap. However try as i might i could not get it to attached to the existing hole. Now i know your thinking 'Well, just drill a new one idiot!' but i was a bit scared to start drilling holes in the car so i had a 'better' idea. I know i thought i'll just trim down what seems like excessive plastic on the horn itself. Out came the hacksaw and 2 mins later there was alot less horn and it fit perfectly! After congratulating myself on a job well done and having a celebratary cig i went to test my new uber horn. Thats right it now sounds like a duck being strangled. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 26, 2006 Saw the car today & spoke to Karl, the clutch pedal is considerably higher than normal & biting point is near the top of pedal travel. The car has done 147k & we think its still on the original clutch so I think its beyond adjustment & will need a clutch sometime soon. Anyone disagree? Graham. karlos72 0 Posted March 26, 2006 Thanks for your advice today Graham. Was nice to meet some other 205 owners and r lass got some good pics. If she ever bothers to develop them i'll scan 'em and do a post. Hillclimb was a bit disappointing tbh. More like HillQueue! S'pose its better if your driving as opposed to watching. Will begin aquiring funds for a clutch
