205/206 Sensor Resistance Differences

Recommended Posts

M@tt

noticed today that my coolant temperature sensor is causing the 206 dash temperature gauge to max out and i can only put this down to the fact that the resistance of the sensors must be different.

would it be feasible to put a resistor inline with the sensor wiring to that the resistance level is changed? i wondered whether putting in a variable resistor and adjusting it until it the guage read correctly check what resistance it was at and then replace it with a static resistor of the same value?

any comments/suggestions?

Why not just use a 206 sensor instead of the 205 one?

are you sure the wire to the sensor isn't grounding? this will cause the gauge to max out too.

i'm not sure if the sensor is the same size as the 205 one or if the thread is the same.

Nah i'm positive that it's not grounding as if i disconnect it, it goes back down to the bottom of the scale so its only when i connect it so it's defiantely reading wrong

It's likely they are!

the sensors are different sizes afaik. i Have a pile of new ones and have looked to see if any will fit the 205 and they don't :(

cheers ablister,

would you have any sensor numbers etc so i can see if i can find any data on their resitance curves

Cheers

i have a 1 pin grey one but the bag has been opened rigtht at the part number, what i can see is ?131 82, the first number is missing. The thread size looks like m14 or m15. I have others lying about somewhere but not in their bags
