Dixon 1 Posted March 17, 2006 When fitting the gti6 engine into a 205 Will the 205 gti exhaust fit on the gti6 manifold, so I can then just tap the lambda into the 205 exhaust? Or will I have to chop a gti6 decat and weld it to the end of the 205 zorst so I have a matching flange? Also will my 1.6 gti fuel pump be man enough to run the 2.0 engine? Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 17, 2006 The 2.0 needs a bigger bore exhaust then the tiny 47mm the 1.6 has anyway, so I'd replace the whole lot with a 63mm dia exhaust (incl. backbox).
Dixon 1 Posted March 17, 2006 Ah ha, thanks. Is there a known decent exhaust for the gti-6? Been looking on the gti6owners forum and they don't seem to be as performance focused with their opinions. I assume itd still have to be a 205 exhaust so that it will fit to the car, will it have to be custom or are there any 63mm 205 systems? What size is a group N? Cheers. petert 588 Posted March 18, 2006 You'll need a 2.5" flange and downpipe from a 2L Mi16 or S16. The 1.9L flanges are 2.25", have a smaller bolt PCD and thus don't fit.
Dixon 1 Posted March 18, 2006 Yeah thats why I was thinking about welding a gti6 decat to my 205 exhaust so i'll have the right flange and hole for Lambda. But looks like I need a larger bore exhaust too though?
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 18, 2006 yeah...Kwikfit sells 63mm pipes so you can weld you own exhaust. Otherwise OMP sell group A pipes as well. Group N is the same dia as standard.
maxi 36 1 Cars Posted March 19, 2006 i just shortened a std 205 downpipe, welded the boss for the lambda in and off she went. The flange matched up fine once reangled and shortened. Maxi
Dixon 1 Posted March 20, 2006 Didn't you find running a small bore exhaust restrict the power Maxi? Anyone know of a decent 2.5" or 3" system for the 205? I assume 3" will still be ok and not too big?
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 20, 2006 yes...2,5" is fine for a GTi6, 3" is for the turbo guys. I have recently ordered an OMP Grp A pipe which is 2,5".
Dixon 1 Posted March 20, 2006 I have recently ordered an OMP Grp A pipe which is 2,5". Cool thanks, looks like a solution! I assume this system isn't silly loud and will be ok for track day 100db limits?
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 20, 2006 With a normal backbox and a midbox installed it will be silent.
Dixon 1 Posted March 20, 2006 But then i'd be restricting the flow again and would negate the point of getting the 2.5" system though? May have a look around and see if I can find a silenced mid section that doesn't restrict it too much.
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 21, 2006 yeah...I installed a Simons mid section that was also 2,5"
Dixon 1 Posted March 21, 2006 Looks spot on mate, where did you get it all from? Or was it somewhere local to you in the Netherlands?
C_W 3 1 Cars Posted March 21, 2006 No 205 silencers will mate up with 2.5" systems though will they? you'd have to make it up out of universal parts wouldn't you? The system on my 1.9 Mi16 is 2" but a section of it from the downpipe to the middle box is only about 48mm as thats all I could get at the time (its a bit baggy in the front box and was temporary but has been there for 18months!). Power seems fine on it but probably not ideal.
Dixon 1 Posted March 21, 2006 Yeah looks like i'm going to have to chop a universal silencer in the middle of the group A system. Where can you buy the group A from as I can't seem to find anywhere
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 22, 2006 It's made by OMP. Any OMP dealer will be able to supply it. I use that pipe for all my big engine projects now. It's just bolt on stuff now.
