Mi Loom Question

Recommended Posts

jim205GTI

As i am sure most know the black and brown plugs are located at the opposite end to the ECU connector. Is it just a case of removing all the tubing and tape and then seperating the ecu connector and cables from the other ones ( not literally removing it :) ) and then just bringing it closer to the two plugs?

Was thinking about this as i would ideally like to keep the Mi ECU in the same place as the 8v one

And before any sharp replies come in saying use the search facilty.......... i have and trawled through alot of useful stuff i couldn't find the answer to what i needed ;)

The way you've described is how I did the wiring on mine when I fitted the MP3.1 to my car.

You only need to seperate out five or six wires unless you choose to use the 405 guages wiring afaik.

Really, what you're doing is bring the brown and black plugs closer to the ECU not the other way round (least that is what I did with the 405 loom) :P

Basically stripped back each of the wire as far in to the loom as they would go from the black and brown plug (you need to cut these off as you can't use these anyway), and joined them up to the corresponding wire from under the 205 dash; of course, this assumes your original loom (engine and instrment) all goes through the bulkhead near the steering column). I found a lot of the wires from the plugs could be undone and didn't need extending other than joining up to the plug.
