scott8629 0 Posted March 16, 2006 Im looking at a Miami Blue car advertised, the guy who owns it says it needs some work but I think its just what im looking for. It needs a bit of TLC in the bodywork dept and alco the gear selectors have gone, as he puts it the ear stick moves around in every gear! Is this a simple fix? The car is a 91 on a J plate do you think there will be more rust lurking underneath? The car is in Somerset and Im in Yorkshire so I cant veiw it, the guy is sending me some pics. j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted March 16, 2006 Sounds like just a case of new linkages, as long as it engages all gears and doesnt crunch then its pretty simple. Just get the selector linkages theres 2 from Pug or maybe speak to Miles and get better quality ones.
hengti 2 Posted March 16, 2006 (edited) if it's moving around alot, it'll likely be the selector forks in the 'box itself - which is a replacement g'box job don't let that put you off if the rest of the car is sound though - the gearbox is a known weak point and can be replaced for around £300 - much cheaper if you get a second hander and do it yourself though - someone's selling one on here for £30 ... Ryan 99 Posted March 16, 2006 Do you mean the stick moves by itself when in gear, or just that the stick is very loose when moved by hand? If it's just loose then it could be something as simple as the bolt holding the linkage to the subframe being loose.
