alex205mi16 1 Posted March 14, 2006 doing a headgasket on an S1.. was getting dark so left the timing bit alone until this evening. Timing hole in cam is straighforward enough but i had a little trouble finding hole in the flywheel. only found one very small hole, say about 3-4mm by the engine no plate. then i felt (no light) a small screw head, took this out to find a decent sixed hole and felt what i thought was the flywheel ... is this the right hole? could not find the hole in the flywheel but i`ll have a stab again tonight.. i cant have been far off as the cam was lined up..ish.. anyway while the head is off it will have a skim, (0.2mm is enough??) i`ll get the valves lapped, give to a good de coke and put new valve stem seals in.. its a genuine 75k motor so hoping valve guides will be fine.. is there anything else i should do while head is off?? i`m going to flush the whole cooling system as its full off brown sh it, and clean out all the breathers etc.. advice appreciated.. Sandy 191 Posted March 14, 2006 The timing hole is >6mm diameter and bloody awkward due to the oil cooler pipes.
alex205mi16 1 Posted March 14, 2006 yeah, i have removed one of them for better access but its not ideal... i must be looking in the right place then... the hole i could get my finger in, but the hole in the fly felt a lot smaller..
