Alastairh 47 Posted March 13, 2006 (edited) Often the check strap pin clicks, so go down peugeot parts department and order one. there only about £2 each. Out of intrest if the door is open, can you move it up and down? Alastair Edited March 13, 2006 by Alastairh
jamesc 3 Posted March 13, 2006 One yes, one no. What does that mean? how do you replace the check strap? easy job? Thanks for the advice
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted March 13, 2006 More than likely the strap pin as Alastair said or that the spring has broke inside the door. The pin just requires knocking out, a hammer and punch job, to remove the spring you need to remove the door card and there are two 13mm nuts that hold it in, with pin removed it slides out. hengti 2 Posted March 13, 2006 could just be that the hinges need greasing - they'll click away quite happily if they're dried out my drivers door probably moves up and down on its hinges through the best part of an inch - still shuts fine though; been like it for years if the check strap were broken, wouldn't you be able to open the door much wider than normal? once trashed the door of a mini due to broken check strap - wind took it out of my mit - made a right mess of the door and the panel infront of it
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 14, 2006 Mine was the door check strap like Alistair & James say. Should fix it if they are only £2. if the check strap were broken, wouldn't you be able to open the door much wider than normal?Don't think so, I've been running my STDT without one for over a year. It does open slightly wider than normal but if the wind got hold of it it could get messy. The MOT tester mentioned it to me last year so I'll fix it before its next test. ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted March 14, 2006 You can buy new pins and brass inserts for the torx type (phase 2 models) The brass inserts arn't the same as the original ones which are one piece and have to be drilled out. The inserts were listed under a 405 part and come in two halfs (4 required per door) each have a split down the side, which opens up to make a tight fit inside the bracket on the A pillar when the pin is screwed in. feb 47 Posted March 23, 2006 Alex, do you have the part numbers for the pins? What do you mean by brass inserts? My passenger door's moulding rubs against the wing moulding when i open the door and the door seems to have dropped a bit, but it is not moving up and down. What could be the problem? Also both doors are clicking when opening. Hope it doesn't fall apart before i get it sorted! The pins i have are the torx type ones. aeinstein 0 Posted March 23, 2006 could just be that the hinges need greasing - they'll click away quite happily if they're dried out my drivers door probably moves up and down on its hinges through the best part of an inch - still shuts fine though; been like it for years just a quick observation. my pals mi16 has got a duff hinge on one of the doors, causing it to drop, and because it doesn't close level, it has rubbed the paint off the sill where the door closes. ( at the back of the door.) something he would be well advised to remedy before too long, as metal worm will soon get hold. not the check strap i know, but worth looking out for if there is any substantial vertical movement in the trailing edge of the doors. al
