Breather System

anyone know if you can get an aftermarket breahter system for the standard 1.9? I don't need to worry about MOT/emmissions or anything like that (legally speaking). The standard one seems to me to be so likely to allow air to bypass the AFM and the pipes get blocked.

There aren't any 'after market' breather systems... you really just need to get a catch tank and some pipe and re-route the current breather system. If you try some searches there are a few threads with different options and you can see how people have achived this :)

Thanks.. I tried a search and can't really find anything that helpful: I got some stuff on turbos and mi16 and am not sure if these engines have the same over complicated system that the 8v 1.9 has.

It would be good if someone could explain how I can get rid of the standard breather system for a catch tank set up.

Bodge-tastic and still going strong (I've put a longer hose on it now, so the bottle isn't balanced on the dizzy anymore. its sitting quite snugly under the header tank. ;)

thanks for that.. i've also found a few more topics now on the search. Would you know if blocked breathers could cause a misfire at about 5k? My pug is a bit hesitant at the start of the rev range and then misses at about 5k.

I cleaned up the ignition amp and the heatsink that it is screwed to and applied some fresh thermal compound but that's done nothing. It looked like coolant had found its way to the ignition amp and a very small patch on the metal back was corroded (might it need replacing?).

Its had new leads, rotor arm and dizzy cap and I've heard that coils are fine until they go. So I've run out of ideas. Any help appreciated.

sounds more like a timing/fueling issue to me, but don't knock a new coil, a new one on my f-reg did wonders!

if you had blocked breathers you would more than likely be followed everywhere by a trail of smoke as the pressure in the crankcase would be forcing oil past the rings
