kate205gti 4 Posted March 12, 2006 can anyone offer any suggestions on what might be wrong with my mi this time please?? rebuilt block and skimmed head fitted last week (mi16 on tbs, emerald ecu, slightly ported head otherwise standard) ran in (1000 miles) from wednesday - driving ok nice lots of power and sounding relatively healthy apart from ticky/tappy noise which we're pretty sure is the manifold return spring broke on tbs yesterday morning replaced with slightly stiffer springs thieved from haynes lol went to track day yesterday and "gave it death" - car loved it lots of power quite happy still drove it home thought it felt a bit slow but might just have got used to it most of the way home and car developed "hiccups" - kept losing power for a few secs now is hiccuping all the time - driving along and it loses power for a second or two then comes back, no popping or banging when it does it though. It wont idle from cold without revs (cuts out - didnt do that before weekend) and does feel slow when it cuts out theres no change in engine noise apart from the zaust when it picks back up again, no misfiring just feels like your driving through a bubble the car doesnt feel as rev happy or fast but that might be the stiffer linkage but he doesnt want to "go" i dont think it would be crank sensor as no misfire, it idles ok when its warm - nice and smooth - checked the coil lead and that seems ok someone suggested head gasket?? any other ideas/things to try please? James_R 3 Posted March 12, 2006 Think it's a map/ecu issue. sounds fuelling related, maybe TPS knocked out of position, or it's failing. Will be easy to see with the laptop in, could bring a spare up that I know is good just in case.
pugrallye 0 Posted March 12, 2006 does sound like a TPS issue, either a faulty unit or wiring
Alastairh 47 Posted March 12, 2006 I would link the lap top up to see first if everything seems good there. Just look round for any dodgy connections, check all the earths are correct so you can delete them from your suspitions, before you look any more deeply into it. Martin@PRD 0 Posted March 14, 2006 Sounds like a poor connection to an injector to me, though take it to a rolling road and let them re-map it Im sure it will highly benefit from it.
